Treatment Options

Treatment Options

  1. Do nothing. Untreated nail fungus can spread to other nails and cause secondary bacterial infections
  2. Topical Application. Topical medication available over the counter and prescription which have very low success rate and involve treatment 1-2 times daily for almost 1 year.
  3. Oral Medication. Typically more effective than topical medication but can have adverse side-effects and have to be taken for 3 months under close observation by your doctor. This should be prescribed by your medical doctor along with close monitoring of liver function.
  4. Surgical Removal. This is an option but does involve surgical removal of your nail plate along with post operative care with risk of further infection.
  5. Laser Treatment. This offers a direct approach vaporizing the fungus at the source with little side effects and showing a range of 68 to 80 percent success.
